Okechukwu Ibeanu Okechukwu Ibeanu is Professor of Political Science and former Dean of Social Sciences at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is also the UN Special Rapporteur on the adverse effects of toxic wastes on human rights. Professor Ibeanu was a member of Coordinating Committee of Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council and Fellow of the United Nations University. He was also a visiting scholar at Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford University and the Woodrow Wilson Center, Washington. Professor Ibeanu has published widely on politics, security, environment and conflict, including Between the Theory and Practice of Democracy in Nigeria (2008), Beyond Declarations: Law Enforcement Officials and ECOWAS Protocols on the Free Movement of Persons (2007), Oiling Violence: The Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons in the Niger Delta (2006) and Civil Society and Conflict Management in the Niger Delta (2005).
